Michael Searching Bear

What a weekend I had!

My wife and I went to the Yankee Peddler Festival in Canal Fulton, Ohio. What a trip. There was all kinds of music from a Bagpipe band to a lounge band (that seemed kind of out of place and not with the theme of the event). Can't forget to mention bluegrass and old timey music as well as celtic and folk groups. There really is something for just about everyone.

One of the musicians we went specifically to see, was Michael Searching Bear. Michael is a Native American of Cherokee and Powhatan descent. He is also an outstanding musician and Native American flautist.

We had the opportunity to hear his mini concert and educational lecture on Sunday afternoon. I recorded his first offering, which was a duet with his friend and cohort T.J Marlatt. You can hear it here, and remember that this is a live recording (some background noise).

Michael also makes Native American flutes and we bought one for my wife. She really loves it. He makes excellent quality flutes and you can check them out as well as some of his music at www.searchingbearflutes.com and check out his myspace at www.myspace.com/michaelsearchingbear  .

T.J. was also an excellent flautist. His music is noteworthy and you can check him out at www.redtailstudios.com and his myspace at www.myspace.com/tjmarlatt .

It is a worthwhile journey!
